Captain
Richard
Cook (D.O.B: 31st Aug 1976)
British
Richard began racing dinghies at the age of five and by his late
teens had moved on to top-level regattas such as the 1996 Rolex
Commodore's Cup. Working as a rigger on a wide range of yachts
has enabled Richard to gain considerable technical experience.
He joined the Expo 98 Around-the-World Rally as a mate on Infatuation,
an Oyster 70 and by the end of the rally had taken the helm as
Infatuation's captain. Richard captained the new Infatuation,
a 30-metre Jongert, for two years. He then spent three years on
Free Spirit, an Oyster 80, before moving on to captain Charlatan.
Richard has been with Charlatan since 2003, during which time
he has sailed the yacht to the Galapagos, Panama, the Caribbean,
Alaska, New Zealand, South Pacific and Tahiti.
Richard
is a keen diver, enjoys all water sports, cycling
and reading.

Engineer
Murray Walker (D.O.B: 6th September 1984) Scottish
Murray started sailing with his father on the West coast of Scotland. After school he studied Mechanical Engineering at Strathclyde University and also spent some time working and travelling abroad. This experience prompted Murray to look for a career that would give him the opportunity to continue his travels. After University, Murray completed the Ocean Yachtmaster Qualification which, along with his engineering qualifications, gave him the skills to combine his passions for sailing and travelling, and therefore saw him embark on an engineering career onboard charter vessels.
Murray enjoys most sports, including diving and football.

CHEF
Kat Flavell (D.O.B: 29th April 1980)
British
My passion for sailing began at an early age with dinghy sailing on family holidays.I developed a keen interest in cooking which was encouraged by my family who are involved in the catering industry.Combining these two passions I have been fortunate enough to work on several yachts around the world,enabling me to develop my cooking skills influenced by my travels and the wide variety of styles,ingredients and flavours I have been introduced to.
I enjoy most water sports and am a very keen water skier having worked as a water ski instructor.

Stewardess
Elizabeth Shawcroft (D.O.B: 29th April 1988)
British
Lizzie originates from Southampton, UK and has been raised around boats. She learnt to sail from a very early age and was taught by her parents who worked as a chef and captain respectively. Lizzie continued sailing whilst at university in Plymouth, where she studied Events Management. Lizzie has a strong background in racing and has competed in many events; namely the Fastnet and Class 40 Worlds. She has previously worked on several race boats and behind the scenes on several high profile ocean races including the Artemis Transat.
Lizzie enjoys exploring new places and meeting different people.

Alex Worley (D.O.B: 29th February 1988)
American
Alex’s passion for sailing has come along more recently than the rest of the crew and now he shares his sailing passion with Surfing, Kite Surfing and SCUBA diving. Even though he is relatively new to sailing, he has gained a wide variety of skills in the last 2 years. His first experience of sailing was on a 130ft Classic Schooner as a deckhand and race crew, on which he did a transatlantic crossing and classic races (Regate Royale, and Le Voile de St. Tropez), in the south of France. On Charlatan, he has assisted with the re-fit in Falmouth, worked the Mediterranean, Transatlantic, and now the Caribbean season.
Alex has worked as a SCUBA diving instructor in both Australia and Barbados. He also enjoys Wakeboarding, Kite Surfing and Cricket. |
